Atypical Depression?Q.What is atypical depression? A."Atypical depression" is not an official diagnostic category, but it is often discussed informally. A person suffering from atypical depression generally has increased appetite and sleeps more than usual. An atypical depressive may also be able to enjoy pleasurable circumstances despite being unable to seek out such circumstances. This contrasts with the "typical" depressive, who generally has reduced appetite and insomnia, and who is often unable to find pleasure in anything. Despite its name, atypical depression may in fact be more common than the other kind. My psychiatrist used the term of me. It implies getting up in the morning in a better mood than you went to bed, and feeling worse as the day goes on. Typical depression is the other way round. I have no idea which would be the easier to live with, I've only had atypical. I think another characteristic of atypical depression is feeling oversensitive to things. According to this, I have Atypical depresion during the day. -Want to eat, want to sleep. And a different Atypical one at night: -Want to eat, can't sleep According to a couple of sites I found, atypical depression is the commoner type. No numbers were given. No statisticians were injured in the making of these data.
