best antidepressant?

Q.What seems to be the best antidpressant available? I was put on Wellbutrin 2 years ago and found out recently it's not a classic SSRI!

A.I believe you are not asking the right question! You should ask for the best antidepressant which is most appropriate for you!!! Once you know you need an antidepressant (which is most likely when you have fibro) you'll have to find out which one works best. This could be a problem indeed. I tried out five: Saint John's wort: weak, but the effect is demonstrable Ginkgo biloba: weak Trazodone: strong, but after a couple of days it doesn't work anymore and it leaves me more depressive than I was before. Deanxit: weak and its effect is over after a few days Mianserin hydrochlorid (not available in the States): so far it's the best medicine to me and I'm using it all the time. But this does not mean it's the best antidepressant for you!!! You'll have to experiment till you have the best results. It's amazing how much difference there is between antidepressants what about their effects. In winter you also might feel the beneficent effects of a full spectrum lamp or a sunlamp. "what works best for you". I had tried all mentioned & had such beastly experiences w/some (trazedone I think...I couldn't move to get out of bed to pee! :'( ) I swore I'd never take any! Unfortunately tho I've fought serious depression off & on all my life, when I got FMS the insomnia was (& still can be) intolerable. Amitriptylline/Elevil helps me w/sleep but took away my sex drive :-( but then so does no sleep :-\ , so I take it at night. Wellbutrin is *the* one & only antidepressant that *works* for depression, lol, U know, gets rid of it!! ;-) **It is unfortunate that we have to play w/the darn meds to find what works. I was just explaining this very thing w/my 16yr old son who is add & didn't want to go back on meds tho it's obvious, even to him, that it's needed. He's willin' to give it "2 more med tries"! whew! We're gonna try Strattera, which isn't a stimulant...apparently it's not exactly an antidepressant but is more like one than the others, ritalin or adderal (which did help some...the adderal that is).
