Depression and Chronic Fatigue ?Q.I have been treated for depression for several years with Prozac and Xanax. It has mostly been successful, but I get relapses. Most commonly, sleepiness. Xanax is not the problem because I'm used to it as I've taken it so long. This time, I have fatigue so chronic that I just can't work. It's more than sleepiness. Sleep doesn't help, and I don't feel I have to sleep all the time...I'm just VERY fatigued. I've had to take a month off from work. Doctor suspects depression. I don't FEEL depressed in other ways, just fatigue, VERY fatigued. Other causes have been ruled out through medical tests, blood draws, etc. Anyone out there with similar diagnosis or situation that might be able to help me with this? Has this ever happened to you? How long did it last? What helped? A.I just read a good book about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. You might want to look into it. I am sure there must be info on it somewhere on the WWW. Here is some info on the book I read. Describes the authors coming to terms with having chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS). A wonderful account of finding meaning in a healthy life through the contrast drawn by confrontation with serious and consuming illness. Since CFIDS and depression are both seen only from their subjectively reported and observed signs and symptoms, and since both are totally unseen from any objective observable clearly primary physical causality, CFIDS is a wonderful metaphor for depression. Both would appear to be "challenges" from which meaning and life can be found. (Did *I* say that??) This author tends towards the "new age, past lives, crystals can heal" perspective, but I can go part way there. Enough to get a lot out of this book anyway. "When I finally stand up, and brush the dirt off my clothes, I know that nothing more is asked of me. - I hope I do not forget when I get well." Other Questions : Symptoms / Medication / Is this Depression??I'm not a doctor, but have been diagnosed with clinical depression, and have had bouts for years.
