Point of Information re: "clinical depression" and drugs ?

Q."Clinical depression" does *not* "mean depression that is best treated with drugs". Maybe so, maybe not, it all depends on the individual. No matter how many times people say it, it is incorrect to say that "clinical depression is a biochemical disorder". Maybe so, maybe not. Drugs may help you. Then again, they may not. Not all clinical depression is best treated with drugs. Not all clinical depression is biochemical in nature (as if there were a way to tell). People who respond well to drugs like to think that this is the answer for everyone, but it isn't, any more than Jesus is.

A.after what some of the depression meds have done to some of my friends, i agree, its not for everybody. i know that i couldnt handle medication... i get wigged out on cold medicine. im interested in natural remedies and not being medicated for the rest of my life. Well Greta, let's not go to the opposite extreme in assuming that you "couldn't handle it", it might help you a lot, sometimes people don't even experience any unpleasant side effects at all and it helps them a lot and boy are they glad they tried it (the antidepressant)! You might be one of the lucky ones, it's worth bearing in mind as a possibility. And don't forget that many of the popular today so-called "natural remedies" such as Saint Joan's Wart are really drugs as much so as Prozac or other pharmacy sold materials. Just don't listen to people who tell that if you're depressed you should be taking drugs for it, it may work for them but everyone is different, the idea that you should treat depression with drugs just like you would put lotion on a rash is very misleading and has probably caused many people a great deal of unneeded distress. But at least drugs are of true value to SOME people. Jesus is more like a placebo: it doesn't actually do you any good, but if you believe it does then you might help you feel a little bit better for a while.
