"clinical" depression ?

Q.Is there a difference between depression and "clinical" depression? What is the difference?

A."Clinical" in this context probably means that the depression is observed, diagnosed, and treated, I would imagine. Clinical is defined as direct observation of the patient. I guess that means that a person can be depressed without being clinically depressed. clinical depression is diagnosed and treated by a doc. Just depression is something that a non professional states like your friends and such. that is my humble opinion. Clinical depression is something that doesn't go away when life circumstances change. It is a chemical imbalance and it has been and always will be with you. The good news? It is completely treatable with medication. My should be humbler opinion. (I'm working on my humility Clinical depression has specific symptoms. If you have several of these symptoms you might then be considered clinically depressed. If you have one, you may be experiencing a some depressed feelings. The difference is in number of symptoms and intensity of each symptom. Negative changes in eating or sleeping patterns can be one symptom of depression. Also loss of concentration and feeling like it is difficult to participate in your normal routine due to extreme lack of motivation. Also, if, when you see yourself in the mirror you almost always look sad and lonely, or if you now find it extremelly difficult to enjoy things that used to give you pleasure, that could be a sign of depression. On the evidence of these symptoms you might also, among other things, be considered endogenously depressed, or reactively depressed, or even to have a 'schizoaffective disorder'. As the original poster was, I think, asking: what is the specific difference between 'clinical depression' and other types of depression? *My* definition of clinical depression is pretty straightforward. Clinical depression is when the depression is so bad that you develop significantly changed sleeping, eating and sex drive patterns than normal. For example, when your depression becomes so bad that you begin getting that "early morning awakening" thats when it is clinical. When you start getting jerked awake before dawn and have totally lost your appetite that is clinical. When you develop physical symptoms of depression that is clinical depression.
