Q.Depression and alcoholism are serious conditions to be sure, but at least potentially reversable and as such the word 'support' in the ng name is entirely appropriate IMHO. So again, why are disability-related ng's in the same hierarchy?

I'm sure you'll make a fortune when you reveal your secret for reversing alcoholism - and many depressive illnesses, come to that. Perhaps you could explain how my former friend's depression can be reversed. I could provide more details, if you like. After all, I attended the inquest which returned a verdict of suicide. I know of people with long term depression and others who are alcoholics who are unable to work solely because of their disability and are in receiept of state aid as a result. I don't think you have any understanding at all of either depression or alcoholism. I don't know of many alcoholics who don't consider themselves disabled. I certainly don't know of the family of any alcoholics who don't think of them as disabled. Go ahead and propose it (or better - ask Shaun and Patrick first if it figures in their propoosals). For reasons that have been well voiced it is as objectionable to some people as support is to others so it won't be a panacea.
