Cognitive Therapy poll ?

Q.I know that Cognitive Therapy (as developed at the Center for Cognitive Therapy) and intrapersonal therapy have been touted as the only effective therapies for depression (gee, I've been reading the FAQ again, haven't I!). However, what I WANT to know is this: How many ASD'ers have actually GONE through either Cognitive Therapy

A.I think it might be useful for situational depression, but for those of us with biologically-based depression, I don't think it's going to be a cure. I find the ideas useful as a way of coping with depression. It's good to remind myself this feeling won't go on forever. That my perception of the world is not always accurate. If you (and the therapist) don't expect a cure, or even a major help, but just better coping skills, it might be worthwhile. It's pretty short-term. The woman I saw was the only mental health professional who has ever said to me (on the second visit, no less): I don't think what I do is going to be able to help with your problems. She could have taken me for another dozen paying visits, easy. Hey, I'll chime in here. my first brush with Cognitive Therapy, I thought it was a total crock of shit. It was like saying "Just think happy," which if you're depressed you CAN'T do! Now that I'm seeing a pdoc, taking meds and have my affect undercontrol, the Idea/practice of cognitive therapy is helping me to think properly Example: I KNOW that my wife loves me. If I don't feel that way at any particular time, but continue to behave "as if" she loves me, eventually I will feel loved again. This id completely different from trying to behave as if I'm not really depressed or not really manic. (If I just think tranquil waves, then I won't be manic.) I'd like to answer but since I'm too lazy to read the FAQ could you give me a brief definition of what intrapersonal therapy is? I may have had some cognitive therapy in relation to viewing my relationships with the significant others in my life, but I need a working definition of the other type to answer you fully and properly.
