The clinical definition of depression?Q.You are full of it. I know people, If you could make all this money, you'd be doing this yourself instead of preying on those you figure to be more susceptible than others ( i.e., the mentally ill )on the internet. Just remember: WE ARE STILL SMARTER THAN YOU ARE! The clinical definition of depression is anger turned inward. Well, I have enough for both you and me. A.It isn't? Psychologists seem to think it is. Let's hear your definition then if it's more accurate. Let me guess you're one of the psychiatry worshipers who think that all forms of depression are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain? My mother is a psychotherapist, and she doesn't seem to think it is. You don't have to give up the concept as being related to depression, though, just think of it as one possible symptom among many. Anger is weird for me. I have a very small anger component. I took the anger test thingie in Feeling Good, and I scored a 16. I read the scoring text and that was so abnormally low, I went back and took it again to see if I could stretch it and respond more angrily. Whoopee, I got a 19! I must be a freak. Avoid those ones. If a psychologist is providing psychotherapy for 'anger turned inward' they are treating neurosis, not depression. Clinical depression has a specific set of clinical criteria - anger turned inward is not one of them. The same with shrinks who explain all depression as a 'chemical imbalance'. Nothing is so simple. I've had two psychiatrists and one psychologist tell me this when I asked them what depression is. Do you want me to name them and give you their phone numbers? Let's hear your references for your PoV now. Why do I have a slight suspicion that that could turn out to be difficult for you... Personally I do think that there is such a thing as indogenous (or whatever the word is) depression, but unlike most psychs I don't think all cases of depression are indogenous depression. Then again, the latest thing I heard was that the psychiatric community had made a u-turn rearding that.
