Depression Symptoms?

Q.This is the first time I've posted to this newsgroup, but I need a few opinions. I've been taking Effexor for about 5 years, 150 mgs per dose. Recently I had an argument with my boss that ended up costing my job. It was very much unlike me to lose my temper that way. Lately (a couple weeks ago) I was wondering if the Effexor was still as effective. I feel like I've been on the edge of anger almost all the time, and it burst to the surface with my boss. Is it possible the Effexor has lost some effectiveness? If so, would it be better to try another medication or up the dosage of Effexor?

A.you could try increasing it, then if it doesn't help, switch meds. 150 mg isn't a huge dose. talk to your doc about it. if you don't have one, you might want to see a psychiatrist. good luck with it. I agree with Lisa. I'd also add that you might have a different kind of problem than Effexor works for. You should definitely see your psychiatrist ASAP. If you have a GP instead of a psychiatrist, then you should get a psychiatrist ASAP. Anger that is so out of control that it costs you your job is very serious. I agree with the posters that say you should consult your physician or phyciatrist ASAP. Anger like this is indeed a serious issue that needs to be dealt with. As for the Effexor, I was on 150 mg Effexor XR for 9 years. Over time, it "pooped out". Also, I got tired of the side effects, primarily sweating and weight gain. I am actually going off Effexor under the care of my physician, basically by 37.5 mg a week. I am now down to 75 mg. 150mg is quite a low dose, so, if your doctor agrees (psychiatrists know better), you have an avenue there. I didn't get rages with it, though I did with others, but we all react differently to different drugs.
