Depression Help? Is there any?Q.My friend, an RN, tells me that I have situational depression. About 4 times a year I get depressed and feel badly for days. My life is not that bad really compared to other people I see who do not seem depressed but sure have a right to be. I have been to counselors and Drs. but with no long term help. Seems the act of talking helps but then that ends and soon here I am again agonizing over stuff in my life. I am 49 years old and am growing weary of this. Have any of you had this problem? I need relief and I need long term relief. I would appreciate any suggestions. A.If your depression recurs 4 times a year, how can it be "situational"? I suspect that there is a clinical component to it, and that you might find relief in an appropriate medication. Have any of your counsellors, doctors or RN friend considered this possible approach to treatment? I have been on Paxil for 4.5 years, and found that the combination of medication and psychotherapy had the greatest impact on alleviating my depression. BTW, it is not how bad your life is compared to someone else's life. It is how bad *you* feel in response to the stresses of your life. Everyone is different, and what one person can handle might be enough to bring you down. And, what you cannot handle in the long dark days just before Christmas might be an absolute snap for you in the middle of June. So, cut yourself a little slack, and ask about how medication might be able to help you overcome depression. And keep posting to asd, because we would like to know how you are coping, and *that* you are coping.
