Medication and Pregnancy ?Q.When I mentioned to my p-doc that I wanted to have another child, he suggested I go off the drug (Klonopin) and put me on a taper schedule. I tapered from 1.25mgs to .75mgs with no problem, but my anxiety level shoots up when I try to go lower. Even with all the other cognitive behaviorial exercises I try to do. When I finally got in to see my OB at the end of Sept., (we were kind of trying to get pregnant at this point anyway...), she said she did not have any problem with me being on this drug--as anti-anxiety drugs go, it is one of the safer ones, and that my mental health is as important, if not more important than my physical health. When you have an anxiety episode, your body releases too much adrenaline and that's not good for the baby either. A.Here's a question for this group. I have been on an anti-anxiety med for about 7 months now. I have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks on and off for about 10 years. Last year around Christmas it was so bad, I finally caved and decided to try medication. It turned my life around. I was able to start making progress toward getting my life back. So, I went back to the shrink to tell him this and he told me he could not prescribe this drug to me anymore if I were going to go ahead and try to get pregnant. I'm not that concerned because I'm pretty sure the OB will prescribe it for me, but I'm wondering if anyone else out there is pregnant and on "questionable" meds. I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome/gastritis 1 1/2 years ago. I was having some depression also, and had to take a medical leave from school. The stress of being a single parent and having two jobs and a full time courseload was killing me. So I scaled back, treated myself with herbs and diet, and was pretty much symptom free for a year(without going back to school).
