should i be on some kind of depression medicine? ipls read plsQ.is this depression? i always feel like something is bothering me or i am worrying about something. but in reality, i have alot to be happy about and i'm a pretty good person. sometimes my mind plays with me though, it'll put stupid thoughts in my mind, like saying "i hate this" or " i'm this kind of person or that kind of person" its like my conscious is messing with me. i'll start to worry about things that i absolutely shouldnt be worrying about. maybe my mind is in supermode and its anxiety. but i dont like some of the thoughts (i wouldnt even call them thoughts b/c i dont want to think what i'm thinking, if you knwo what i mean) i dont like them at all. and all of that has been buggin the crap out of me. so i guess i should get on some kind of depression medicine. A.It sounds like you may have depression. I would suggest that you try out some of the self-scoring depression screening tests available on the internet. For example, there's one at www.mentalhealth.com and also one at www.mentalhelp.net. You'll have to go through the sites to find the questionairres. The other thing I would suggest is that you go to your doctor for a general physical, and let your doctor know you are concerned about depression and anxiety. There are several other illnesses, such as certain kinds of thyroid problems, that can cause depression. Your doctor will be able to rule these things out, or treat them, and evaluate whether you need medication, therapy, or both. I hear a lot of "negative self-talk". That is often a family history thing, and would be better addressed by a psychologist than by drugs. However you should also check for basic physical functions with your doctor, especially thyroid and other hormone levels. And when you get your thyroid tested be sure to take all 4 tests. depressants may be a good jump start for you, even if you don't have major depression, too. You're right to realize that feeling bad for a reason, is different from depression. Actually, melancholy is the most common symptom of depression, not what depression really is.
