Depression research on the scale of space program ?

Q.Depression research on the scale of space program ?

A.I am so sick of reading about stupid ass clinical studies researching another use for an SSRI or more mumbo jumbo psychology studies bullshit. Fuck that. We need a major movement in this country. We need more money spent on the neurobiological CAUSES of mental illness. We need research programs for mental illness on the scale of the current AIDS research. The AIDS researchers are well financed and they have the political will to find better treatments for AIDS. There is a lot of political support for AIDS research. But there is little political support for mental illness research. Nobody gives a fuck about depressed people. Our problems with depression, manic depression and schizophrenia will never be overcome until we have a HUGE research movement in this country and indeed worldwide that is on par with the space program. I mean, it is ridiculous. Depression and other severe mental illnesses afflict huge numbers of people and cost huge amounts of money in lost wages, unemployment, etc. We need a space program sized mental illness research program so this problem can someday be whipped. We dont need more fucked up studies about psychology. We need studies to break down the human brain and the central nervous system into pure science. So they can figure out EXACTLY what is going on with severe mental illness. Fuck this old style subjective psychology and psychiatry crap. They need to get their shit together and get inline with the rest of medicine. They need to MODERNIZE. Which is gonna mean lots and lots of medical research into the neurobiology of depression. Part of the problem lies in psychiatry itself. Psychiatry attracts the duds, the dummies of the medical world. Leave it up to psychiatry and I predict nothing will ever happen. The neurology and neuropsychiatric communities however, have the will and the brainpower to do what I am talking about. Thats why psychiatry needs to be combined with neurology in the future. So they can move ahead with REAL research, not more prissy psychology studies about stupid ass shit that nobody cares about.
