proposal - alt.support.depression.writing ?Q.Ted's one of those 'net legends about whom we hear so much, as I am sure you know. I like the person I hear in the words he posts since, of course, I don't know him from Eve. I think, Peter, you'd arrived in alt.arts.poetry.comments by the time Denise had posted a poem there? A.Maybe not. She was arethusa, anyway, and lasted about a week, thanks to the barrage of ad feminam attacks as well as howls of derision directed at her and her poetry respectively. A newbie in a.a.p.c survives about a second, mostly, because it's the custom to pretend sophistication and disdain for all but the work of a few core posters lavished with excessive kiss-ass praise, IMO. Ted showed up just after arethusa left in tears, IIRC. The creeps and bullies, as Ted intimates, make it impossible for him to participate. If trolls show up in the proposed NG, because it's composed of a core of a.s.d regs, they won't last long. It's a tight-knit community and smarter than your average nerdherd, IMO. The regulars would deal with trolly-bullies pretty quick-fast. No self-respecting troll touches the support groups, anyway, usually. The myth in all this is that words on the screen are just that, a collection of 26 letters arranged to make sense -- LOL -- and little more. Nothing could be further from the truth. The creator of those words on the screen is a human being. Writing is an intimate act. In a newsgroup such as a.a.p.c., words can wound and the individual on the receiving end of harsh criticism is either a bot or deeply affected by them. I imagine someone suffering depression would be even more vulnerable, emotionally and psychically. Other Questions : best antidepressant? What seems to be the best antidpressant available?
