Depression ?Q.How you decide if it's time to try meds and/or therapy? A.One of the prime symptoms of depression is hopelessness ("there's no use, nothing's going to help anyway"). Another is inertia, being unable to take any initiative. So the depressed person may not be in the best position to make that decision. If your intimates and close friends - perhaps with a leading question or two - suggest that it might be a good idea, or say that you've been sounding depressed... listen. According to the diagonostic manual, there are at least 4 types of depression and 4 levels of those types. I don't see Sagitaria as the person so deep in depression that she has lost all desire to even get up out of bed to do the little things like shower and eat. Those are the depressives who can't make the decision for themselves. Most depressives, myself included, are aware of a problem; we just don't have the wherewithall to do anything about it. And if and when that desire hits, a person ,IMHO, ought to jump right into doing whatever therapy they can get. Sometimes that outside influence may knock the desire right out of us. Better to let a therapist say "what the heck are you here for, you don't have a problem" than to hear it from unknowledgable friends. At least that we have a professional basis for WHATEVER we decide to do. seeing that you are a saggie I would say when you cannot tell the truth for your own bullshit. being a saggie my self i know i have a problem when i cant find the silver lining in any of the clouds i encounter. this usually follows the "i stop being able to see the truth and start to let folks keep the rose colored glasses on" phase of depression. if it gets to the "whats the point of it all anyway?" phase i know it is time to talk to someone. cause the next phase is the manic horse boy builds things to destroy civilization and tests them out on random people phase.... (never a good thing). anon to "im just going to kill them all and finally have peace phase."
