What is manic depression?

Q.Manic depression is a temporary condition that results when a person goes for 3 or 4 days straight with no sleep. There is actually no such thing as "a manic depressive" since this is a temporary condition. Schizophrenia is a more serious temporary condition that results when a person goes for 3 or 4 days straight with no sleep AND little or no food. There is no such thing as "a schizophrenic" since schizophrenia is a temporary condition a person recovers from.

A.In the early days of psychology a few authors tried to deem the term "schizophrenic" to mean someone with a split personality, or a person who was "two people". But over the decades, as the broad schizophrenia diagnosis was given to many people entering mental health facilities for the temporary condition of "prolonged sleep loss resulting in confusion" the term schizophrenic has lost its earlier use, as minor as it was. It now has no meaning and it's actually not a real word. After the 1960s, the word "schizophrenic" fell into disuse as the broad term "schizophrenia" came into use to cover a whole range of problems associated with extreme-overexhaustion and excessive sleep loss. Though the term schizophrenia is a valid medical term describing extreme over-exhaustion and excessive sleep loss, the term schizophrenic is not a medical term nor is it a legal term. A person filing for government disability cannot write on his form that he is "a schizophrenic". The government will return the form to him and ask him for a legitimate diagnosis. He can write schizophrenia on his government disability form, and this will be accepted as long as the governments doctor finds this condition to be current and serious enough for pay disability. All of the conditions such as manic depression and schizophrenia can be cleared up with three good meals a day, sleeping medication like lithium carbonate, and proper bed rest for several weeks, sometimes months. If a person experiences very prolonged sleep loss (more than 5 days without sleep), extended malnutrition or homelessness with no health care, then damage is often done to internal organs such as the heart, liver, kidneys, etc.
