Post Pardum Depression Symptoms

Q.Yates, 37, has pleaded innocent by reason of insanity to two counts of capital murder in the deaths of three of her children. Her family says she suffered from severe depression after the births of her children. However, the jury decided after deliberating for more than eight hours over two days that Yates sufficiently understands the charges against her and has the ability to consult with her attorneys.

A.I am glad to hear this development. I am sick & tired of hearing this wackos trying to get AndreaYates off on some silly post-pardum depression nonsense. Does anyone notice that the immigrant in CA who killed his family members isn't being granted the same "understanding?" Not that he should be, but that is an interesting observation. It's Post Partum Psychosis, btw, in this case. And while you call it silly, it's well documented that post-partum depression exists and can be a serious problem. Since your wife is going to give birth pretty soon, you might consider familiarizing yourself with the signs and symptoms of PPD should she need help. If she happens to be one of the women who gets it, you'll want to make sure she gets appropriate treatment rather than poo-poo her complaints (if she bothers to make any, that is). Why is it so interesting? Is there a chance that *he* was suffering from PPD/PPP? And how in the world is Andrea Yates being granted "understanding"? The prosecutors are going for the death penalty and reserving further charges in case she's acquitted this time. Sure doesn't sound like just a slap on the wrist to me. I never expected anything different from the state of Texas, but I'm sickened by this. Every article I've read clearly demonstrates that while she's being helped by her medication *now*, she was clinically insane at the time of the murders. What about the psychiatrist who was supposed to be monitoring her? When's his trial? I had Postpartum Depression and Dr. Killinger-Johnson (the woman from Toronto), had a variation of this, Postpartum Psychosis, which is much more rare (1-3 women in 1000) and much more severe. Postpartum Psychosis sufferers sometimes experience an altered reality, actually believing they hear voices commanding them to kill their children or themselves. Sometimes a woman with PPD's symptoms can worsen if they go untreated, and she may experience psychotic symptoms that can escalate to the degree that she becomes a threat to herself and her child. It is possible that this was the case with Dr. Killinger-Johnson. But how could this have happened to a woman who was a therapist and a doctor? Why ...
